Although the digital revolution and the explosion of digital audio cards have both brought with them many benefits, the issue of actually recording healthy signals levels onto the hard drives of digital audio systems is often overlooked. The inputs on most cards are unsuitable for dealing with the weak signal levels that microphones output, plus the issue of supplying phantom power for condenser microphones is also often not addressed. The Audio Buddy is an ultra-quiet, two-channel preamp that offers both features and performance, while still being affordable.
In addition to being a microphone preamp, the Audio Buddy doubles as a direct box. This functionality allows high impedance signals from sources such as guitars or basses, or synthesizers to be recorded with optimal results. The instrument inputs are on the front panel, while the XLR microphone inputs are on the rear, along with the switch for enabling phantom power for both channels.
